The Niceness of the Nurgle
Hard to generally argue that Nurgle is nice at any time to Elf teams. They always want to hit them hard, and are designed to make their passing (or even hand off game) difficult. And in these respects, it the Nurgle team was not very nice. They killed Izze Interlude, recruiting him to join their decaying ranks, and made the normal one turn strategy, pretty much a no go for Crush. That said, the Nurgle team was on a 5 game losing streak, and with playoff chances almost none, they decided to play for the future and not take inducements that could hurt the Melody.

There were certainly times the Nurgle could have used some help. That said, they played a tough game regardless. The Goobas started off with the ball, and although Coke kept leaping in and knocking the ball loose, the Elves just couldn't seem to get a handle on it. After the Nurgle got the ball one more time they were unable to fully cage and Kick did just that to the ball carrier. Schweppes then made some great dodges, picked the ball up in a tackle zone, went for it a couple times and with warrior doing his best to disgust him, was able to complete a pass to A&W who would go in for the first score.

Getting the ball to start the second half, Crush's lack of agility came up, as Pop declined to go for the one turn score, knowing the Gobblers would be a disturbing presence to him. The Melody did wall off nicely, and Crush was protected well. The second turn he got a little cocky with not having to push himself to the limits to score, and tripped up going into the endzone. The Nurgle tried to jump at the chance, but failed to even pick up the ball, the fans played a bit of catch, before it ended up just a few squares from it's starting position. Fanta would then pick it up and score his third TD of the season for the 2-0 lead.

The Nurgle would not quit, and thanks to some overplay on the part of the Elves, managed to get within scoring distance, but a nice play by Crush getting over to knock the ball carrier back was able to delay the Goobas a turn or two, so when Coke failed his leap in to knock the ball loose, and they scored, there would only be 2 turns left. Despite an ill advised pass failing, too many elves stood in the way, and the Nurgle could not make a play on the ball.

This win clinches a division title for the Melody. They are still holding out hope for a bye in the playoffs, but will need to win out and get some help for that. Either way, it has been a great year for the High Elves, and they hope to continue it with two in division games with teams that surely want revenge left.

Records are Meant to be Broken
Scotts Wood Elves made a good ball reversal early getting them the lead halfway through the first half. That would be the end of the good times for the turf builders.

For a record setting 44th time, Crush Cadence scored, and from there on, The Melody would not trail again. Pop was able to Pop the ball loose again in the first half, and this time Sunkist was able to find the endzone. The sun brightened up after halftime (we can only assume due to Mr Staccato's score) so the elves went to the hand off. To start the second half the kick sailed off the pitch, so the refs handed the ball to Crush, who promptly one turned it yet again. Late in the second half, he would find himself behind the defense, and got the hand off, making his way to the goalline. Then as the Melody went into stall mode, he would add a casualty, as Wardancer Miracle Gro wore him self out jumping and dodging to get a shot on Crush, only to take an elbow to the face. His resulting concussion will cause him to miss next week.

On to Crush, who now stands at 46 TDs. Crush has been a member of the Melody since day one, and has only missed one of their 31 games to date. He is averaging an astounding 1.5 TDs per game. He has scored TDs in 19 of 30 games, multiple TDs in 13 of those, and 3 or more in 8 games. There are some players who are well rounded in their abilities, Crush is not that type of player. He was built to score, and hence has few other stats. He completed 2 passes way back Season 14, and his injury this past game is the first of his career, and he didn't even do the initiating on that contact. Even MVPs have been few and far between, with only two of them being awarded to him.

But I said he was built to score and he has done that better than anyone else. That pace has miraculously not been slowed even after a painful injury hurting his lateral movement. His career is not finished, and he will hopefully increase the record in the coming weeks, but even if he doesn't, Crush will earn this writers Elf Crush of a lifetime. And should his record eventually fall, then more power to that player, for he will have definitely had to earn it. Now, a round of applause for the Pop Melody's Crush Cadence!

The One the Record Was Tied In
Coke Crescendo has been working hard to add the ability to strip the ball carrier of his precious cargo for quite some time now. He finally unveiled the skill this week, and what a glorious show it was.

Knocking multiple balls loose, he caused chaos, and although it didn't always lead to a stop the Melody can see the potential this new ability provides. That said, the real hero of the game was newly hired thrower Canada Dry. Up 2-1, he picked off a pass from the Slann, stealing a page from their book, dodged out of a tackle zone, handed off to Schweppes who Ginger Aled his way across the pitch, throwing it to a wide open Crush Cadence, who walked into the end zone.

Crush would find the end zone 4 times, this despite two fails in one turn scores. He now has 43 for his career, and has tied noted Elf Catcher, Fritz 'Hypnotist' Tiboldt, for the all time TD record between the Hawkeye and Critical Hit leagues.

Fritz accomplished his record in parts of 3 seasons, scoring in 20 games, 4 times he managed to score 4 TDs in a game, and added 14 completions, a casualty and 3 MVPs in his time as well. Crush has scored his 43 in 18 games, aided greatly by his quick score ability and a couple games against Skaven. In those games he scored 5 TDs, and has two others with 4 apiece. He has also truly been a TD specialist, as he only has 2 completions and 2 MVPs to go along with those scores. That said, both players made the rolls they needed to when it came to crossing the goal line. Crush will look to break the record this coming week against the tough turf of Scott's Wood Elves.

Injuries Mounting Up
Really, Pop has not been terribly hurt by the injury bug, but the problem has been that they haven't been run of the mill injuries. Not even counting deaths, the Melody has been limping all around, hurting their agility, making them a bit easier to hurt, or a bit easier to stomp on. With that said, they still go into the half way point a solid 4-1.

That loss of Agility has not slowed Crush Cadence much, as he added another 3 TDs to his total to get to 39 for his career. He did it on one turn scores, and just waiting in the backfield until the rest of the team caused enough chaos to knock the ball loose.

The negative is Fresca Flat was put underground after the match, and Kick Key and his strength, will have to sit out a touch matchup with the Slann. Will the third time be the charm for Snack'n'Roll vs the Elves, or will the Sugary Drinks beat the Sugary Snacks for another victory. Should be a tough fought match, no matter the outcome.

The loss and rebound
Pop missed Crush against the Vampires, no two ways about it. But, even without Crush, the melody couldn't get to dislodged footballs, and really never got their offense going. Those bunnicular vamps played a good game, giving Pop it's first loss on the season.

After a long layoff, the Khemri of Brach!!! were next. Again, Pop was able to knock the ball loose, but in places they couldn't get to, and where the Thro-Ra could continue scooping it up, eventually scoring on Turn 7. Next came the moment of truth, what would three agility mean. Managing to only push a player, and then the risky strategy of rerolling, and still only pushing, meant the three ag of Crush would definitely matter. Thankfully with no more rerolls, he successfully leapt, and dodged, and got yet another one turn score.

The second half started with the necessary skeleton going down this time, and Crush getting the quick score again to take a 2-1 lead. The dice then betrayed Eirinn. The manage to go three dice skull skull both down, and reroll into skull skull skull. Failed a chainsaw roll, successful on the loner, only to fail the chainsaw roll. Skull skull, let's reroll that to skull skull. These combined allowed the Melody to get the ball loose, and eventually pick it up and score.

A quick turnaround this week will have the High Elves going on the road to face Chaos Pact Second Stringers from Starlite City. Two players will be missing, but the Melody will still be heavy favorites. Here's to closing out the first half on a good note.

The Crushing Loss in Victory
Pop was able to Pop the ball loose and score in the first half, getting to half time with one nothing lead. But some perfect defense, and a well place fireball free the ball up for the Apes to cage up. They chose not to score quickly, which eventually let the Melody get a shot on the ball carrier, and knock it loose. This is where it went good and bad for the High Elves. Crush Cadence used his speed to pick up the ball, but a bad decision by the coach (he should have called for Crush to try and chuck it down field after he got away), allowed for Crush to get hit, and hit he was, suffering an injury that will cause him some lost agility.

The Apes were able to get the ball, but unable to catch it, so Pop held on for a tight victory. How they advance in the future will be interesting. At this point, the Melody will keep Crush on the roster, and see what happens. If he can continue to succeed, despite his lingering injury, then it may be same old same old. But if he starts to struggle, he may have to be cut if nothing else to keep team value down. There will be tough decisions to be made in the near future.

Bright Skies Overhead
Pop Melody began their third season with a tough hard fought win over a game WAARGH Is All We Know. On a very sunny day, the Elves knew passing would be a little more difficult, but they got lots of advantage on kick-offs, and that would prove to be the difference. The very first drive they changed alignment as the kick was in the air, and that allowed them to get down field quickly, eventually popping the ball out into the waiting hands of Crush, who would find the endzone.

A Blitz on drive two started with the ball in Kick Key's hands, but he would eventually try to get too dodgy, fall down, and the Orcs grabbed it up and went the other way for a score. Crush came onto the field looking for his patented one turn score, but he was apparently cold, and refused to take his hands out of his pockets for the drive, so it went into halftime, knotted at one.

Crush got a new pair of warmer gloves to start half two, and promptly did what he does best, re-taking the lead for the Melody. Another Blitz allowed a lot of Elves onto the Orcs side of the pitch, and with nifty dodging and handing off (at least the second time he tried) from Coke, Crush would score his third TD of the game.

The Orcs caged up and started advancing the ball, but Pop slowed them down just enough, so when the scored with only one turn left, the game was essentially over. All that was left was for Crush to add TD number 4, leaving his just 10 away from the IC record. So Pop is off to a good start, and now will have to face the Simyin team for the first time since their very first game.

A Tale of Two Games
Both playoff games would be decided on injuries, and while Pop did the popping against Skaven, the Dwarves took the Melody out of the tune and it ended on a sour note for the High Elves.

Against Digital, early on it looked like the two teams might top their previous 15 score game, but towards the end of the first half, Pop changed their defensive strategy and was able to hold the Frontiersmen out of the end zone. Then in the second half, Pop laid the lumber to the Skaven, and took most of them off the pitch. They then caged up to protect the ball, and secure their second first round win.

However, for the second year in a row, they got stonewalled at a Steege coached team. Truthfully, the elves played a good game. Crush got two one turn scores, and they forced the Dwarves into long drives, but just couldn't stop them from scoring. Guard was a killer, as was the crowd, which gave extra assists on the sideline. The one time they did pop the ball out, it fell right into the hands of a runner. Still, if they got the kick in overtime, hope was alive, but they did not, and two many elves were off the pitch, with more to follow, so they fall one game short again.

Speaking of short, elven wine will be poured out for Sprite Symphony, the accomplished thrower for Pop as he passed away. A key component to helping Crush score many TDs, he will be missed. Crush is alive and well, and has a very simple goal for next season, break the all time TD record. He is sitting at 30 at the moment, and will need 14 to do so. Sure to be the main target of many a team, despite his 23 TDs this year, it will not be easy. But in blood bowl, nothing is.

Snacking on Veggies
Although some of it was from the Melody, the big problem for Veggie Town were their own Vampires. To often they were eating their own thralls right off the pitch. They were obviously so distracted by those delicious veggies, they couldn't even gaze correctly, missing those rolls until it was too late.

For Pop, it seemed like a replay of their game against the humans. Force a fairly early score on defense, one turn it on the rebound, force the ball out for a late score in half one, then get another one turn score to start the second. Up two, and with all that movement, they were able to force the Vamps to run side to side, and eventually pop the ball out of bounds, gather it up, and find the end zone one more time.

At the end of the regular season, Crush Cadence ends up with 16 TDs, which barring something crazy will lead the league. The Elves are loving their main catcher, and will go into the playoffs full strength. It will either be a rematch against the Frontiersmen rats, or the Philosopher Apes. Either way, two straight playoff appearance are truly music to the ears for Pop Melody.

We Found Them
Although the team says Hidden, the Melody did a good job locating the humans on the pitch, and popping the ball loose enough times to claim the victory.

The Melody took defense first, and they were able to muck things up for a bit, before forgetting about some extra agility training on one of the Humans, who took a hand-off and went in for the score. Crush did his thing however, and one turned it to tie it up.

Pop was then able to knock the ball loose again deep in the Heroes territory, and Crush picked it up on turn 8 to give them a 2-1 lead going into half time. He then wasted no time taking the 2nd half kickoff back for a score on turn 1. The Humans then had some trouble picking up the ball, which allowed a 4th score, this time for Sunkist (Orange you glad he also got a TD), to seal the game up.

The Leaf would add one more score as the team crowded around Crush to celebrate, and not let him get killed. The chorus remains the same as it has been since week 7, win and in. If the Melody can get past those bunnylicious vampires, they will make a second straight appearance in the playoffs.

Back to Even
After falling to 2 and 4, it became apparent, the only real hope of making the playoffs was to win out. With the recent win over the Frogs, that hope remains alive.

The Slann got the ball first, and caged up nicely, while the elf coach used a strategy of trying to cook up some frog legs, while letting the frogs score uncontested. Why, because Crush has had a way of going the distance quickly, which he was able to do tying it up at half.

Crush scored a turn two TD in the second half, and although the melody came close to bottling up the Slann, a few helpful stuns, and a good leap allowed the Snack's to tie it up.

Roll got the ball in OT, but without rerolls had a man fall, allowing newly 4 strength catcher Kick Key to get 2 dice and knock the ball loose. Coke then used his agility to get the ball, get away, and complete a pass. Barqs then blodged his way free, but couldn't complete the handoff. But a skull both down for a non-blocking frog gave Pop one more chance, and Coke was able to pick the ball up, hand it to Barqs, and celebrate the OT win.

At 4 and 4, with two divisional games left, the goal still remains to win out, and that goal is at least a little closer to fruition.

Not Bashful
The Orcs hit the elves, they broke some armor, but just couldn't remove them from the pitch, and that helped Pop gain the victory over Waargh. Some ones and pouring rain early looked like it might derail the Melody, but the rolls turned their way, and the speed and agility proved to much for the Orcs.

As an added bonus, Kick Key spent some time in the weight room and added some extra strength, just in time for the battle with Toads. Despite the positives, it still looks like Pop probably needs to win out to make the playoffs, which will be tough, but can be done.

Not so Sweet(water)
Pop played hard, got a one turn score, and even managed to knock the ball out late with a miraculous two die uphill block. But it's the little things that didn't work out quite right, and those were the inducements.

The Fireball took out 2 of 5 in the cage, but it was pretty much the only two people that didn't allow an easy hit on the ball carrier (meaning also not the ball carrier himself). Eldril allowed a one turn score, but failed his two other Hypno gazes, not allowing a second one turn score, nor a hit on a ball carrier, the merc was knocked out early, and the extra apoth wasn't really needed, as most of the hitting from the All-Stars occurred second half, when there would be only one drive.

Playoffs will be tough to make now, but the Melody has to regroup, work on getting better (and surviving) to make a late run, or gear up for Season 16.

Shootout
The Melody fell down early, couldn't stop the one turn scorers of Digital to save their life, and when they most needed it, failed some rolls. And ended with 15 combined TDs for the highest scoring game in IBBL history.

It was fun, but frustrating, as the ones never came for the Skaven team, while just enough occurred for the Elves. Somehow have to dust ourselves off and get ready for what will surely be a very different type of game against Sweetwater and their bashy Chaosness.

A Bite to the Face
Vampires are strong, agile, dreamy. They certainly brought out the inner dreaminess against Pop, because it seemed like every time they gazed, my elves stood their admiring them. Thankfully, the Vamps also got the case of the munchies, and injured 4 of their own thralls.

In overtime, with the elves up men, the vampires had to be aggressive, but after a failed catch, the ball got knocked out of bounds, and it so politely landed right in the hands of a Blitzer on the throw in, leading to a completion and a TD for the win.

1 out of 3 isn't so good
Meatloaf didn't write song titled that, but unless we're talking hitting in Baseball, or Shaq's free throw percents, a one win two loss start is not the best. Good news is I'm not getting blown out. But got to find a way to get from close to wins.

I did however manage to actually get my first one turn score with the elves, so there is that. So now we wait until the veggie vamps are ready, and see if we can start turning the season around.

Let the Elf on Elf violence continue
Scott's laid down some good groundwork at times, but unfortunately, not enough nourishment from the dice, meant they'll have to wait for next year to grow farther in the playoffs.

My 10 move catcher proved very handy as well, even without the threat of a one turn score. Still need to work on my strategy some, as I allowed to many shots on ball carriers in the second half when trying to regain the lead, but a win is a win.

Now I face the Pro Elves, who are looking for a return trip to the Championship game (just 5 seasons later). Hopefully I can vanquish another Elf team with two 4 strength pieces.

My turn for REVENGE!
The dice were unkind to the undead, and that helped Pop to record win number 7. And although I could certainly be talking about the trip wire that prevented the tying score, the armor rolls may have doomed Ironclad even more, as they just couldn't remove elves from the pitch. So even though my inducements pretty much went for naught, the victory remained.

I now wait to see if I will play a rematch against Wood Elves, or if I'll have to deal with Chaos in the playoffs.

Daylight
The Vampires fell down early, and put up a good fight in the end, including killing a merc and journeyman. But when they had a chance to put some pressure on the ball carrier, a first move double double skull ended their hopes.

Pop meanwhile used a well placed lightning bolt, and some good defense in the first half to get two scores, and tacked on a third on a long bomb in the second half to match their highest scoring output of the year.

Playoff bound, the elves need to try and stay health in their last game against undead and see what tune will be come the first round.

The Revenge That Almost Wasn't
Pop played a very good game in the second game against the Potatoes, alas, it was not meant to be.

After getting a quick score, and then using a well placed lightning bolt to go up 2-0, it was up to the Melody to somehow keep the Dwarves out of the endzone before half to put them in good shape. Alas, they couldn't quite set up the defense as desired, and prevent that score. Too many elves then left the pitch in the second half which allowed the 8 turn score to tie it up.

When the potatoes got the ball in OT, they continued to mash the elves to the sideline, and Pop eventually backed away. The Melody will still be playoff bound, and is now playing for seed against two undead teams, Vamps and Undead.

Split down the middle
The Elves continue to be on a High, after splitting their last two games. The offense was unable to get going against the undead, but no major injuries occurred, so not the worst result.

As for the Ogres, Pop was able to get an early score, despite some good defense from the Thumbs, and then with the assistance of two riots, and a couple double boneheads, were able to keep them in check and tack on a couple more scores.

So the Melody is right on key after 6 games. Gotta make sure we don't go flat the last 4, but still been a pretty good season so far.

Wizards and Cards
No, not FNM, but inducements. Throw in an extra reroll and 4 ST, and Pop got what it needed to pull the upset on the potatoes. After having 3 people knocked off the pitch early, a well placed fireball got the ball loose, and the Melody was able to get the ball in enough space that no team scored in the First Half.

In Half two, a pitch invasion knocked plenty of elves down, but may have benefited them, as the altered strategy did a good job wasting some turns, leading to an eventual TD thrown into two tackle zones. The dice were truly kind when needed. About that card, Rakarth's Spite very well may have changed Meso's strategy, as their star could not use rerolls. So, the Melody is definitely playing well on Pitch after the first loss. Let's see if they can hold a tune against undead now.

Elf on Elf Violence
The High Elves scored early, intercepted a pass and scored again, and then knocked enough Wood Elves off the pitch to set up the winning score with only one turn left to secure the victory.

For getting the interception, and not dying, the Journeyman was hired to be a member of the team. He may regret signing the contract with Chaos Dwarves up next, but we thank him for his contributions none the less.

Winning like an Elf team
The dice were not kind in some regards, as 5 elves left the pitch via injury, including two dead, one being my freshly minted 5 agility catcher.

But in others, they treated Pop very well. I was able to pressure the orcs into a fairly early score in the second half, which allowed me to get a second touchdown and force overtime. Then, after receiving the kick, I got the ball down field. It got bogged down a little, but with only four elves on the pitch, I was able to get a one die knock down, and pick it up in pouring rain to get the first victory for the Melody

Losing Like an Elf Team
After a two turn score, and allowing a score that left three turns left, it looked like the Melody could be very sweet for this High Elf team. But three straight ones when trying to pick up the ball turned a possible 2-1 halftime lead, into a 1-2 halftime Deficit. Pop was able to muck up the pitch in the second half, but the ball bounced poorly, and the dice were not so unkind to the Apes, leading to a defeat. Some solace taken to the 3 injuries the Elves caused, and an AG boosted catcher. Now, onto another strong team, orcs.
